Today we release the song ‘Loka Samastha’ for which I have collaborated with the wonderful group The Thayir Sadam Project.
It has been such a great pleasure working with Ambi Subramaniam, Bindu Subramaniam, Mahesh Raghavan, Akshay Anantapadmanabhan, Karthik Mani and above all, the lovely kids, the young voices of SaPa - Subramaniam Academy of Performing Arts. It was such a joy working with them all.
Loka Samastha Sukhino Bhavantu.
An ancient piece of Vedic text that is as relevant today as ever. It means - let everyone in the world be happy. This is the highest form of well-wishing. If we wish to be happy alone, it won’t last long, as, soon jealousy, covetousness and dissatisfaction will creep in. Only in a world where everyone is happy, and everyone wishes everyone else to be happy, can we experience true happiness, joy, and contentment.
We started with this line as the basic idea for our song and further developed it by adding Kannada lyrics (by K. Rohini Subbarathnam), Tamil lyrics (by Rajalakshmi Balasubramaniam) on the same lines and added a part of the song ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon.
We wanted to release the song on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, to remember and commemorate the 150th birthday of The Father of our Nation, who was a living embodiment of the essence of ‘Loka Samastha Sukhino Bhavantu’.

Aruna works towards the musical education of underprivileged students, through the Nadayogam Trust, which she founded in 2011. Aruna is grateful for the training she received under her mother Rajalakshmi Sethuraman and the legendary T. Brinda, and the mentorship from several masters throughout her musical journey. Her music erased geographic borders when she was the first to incorporate Abhang, a Western Indian musical form, into a traditional, South Indian concert.
